CIS, the study abroad organization I came to Ireland through,
plans four excursions throughout the semester. Our first excursion was up north
of Limerick to Galway. I’ve got to say, that is definitely one of my favorite
places in Ireland (or at least the part of the city we were in). The side streets with all the shops, cafes and
pubs were cobblestone and there was music playing along the way. When we got
there, John our coordinator took us on a city tour. He went to college in
Galway, so he was a great tour guide showing us his favorites.
We visited his college campus, which reminded me a lot of
the scene in Harry Potter where they are having their first broom flying
lesson. The vines up the walls were
really cool too!!
The second day we went to Inishmore, the
largest of the Aran Islands. We rented bikes and took an amazing bike ride
across the island. I absolutely loved it! The scenery was amazing! We found
some blackberries along the way which made it even better. This made John’s
day, he literally couldn’t get enough of those things. I was a little skeptical
about eating them, but John was going for it so we all thought we might as well
too… totally worth it!! They were delicious!!
Our turning point in the bike ride was when we got to Dun
Aengus, a cliff top fort on the island.
Sunday morning we got to explore around town a little more and look at the local shops. John also took a couple of us on one of his favorite walks near the bay. It was such a relaxing and enjoyable walk after a fun weekend! We then went and ate probably some of the best pizza ever before getting the bus back to Limerick.
